Abstract:
This World Wide Web (WWW) site provides teachers and students interested in microbiology and microbial ecology with resources that may aid their learning and teaching. The Digital Learning Center for Microbial Ecology was developed by the Comm Tech Lab in collaboration with the Center for Microbial Ecology and the College of Education at Michigan State University. This site's sections include The Microbe Zoo, Microbes in the Zoo, Meet the Scientists, Microbial Ecology Resources, and The Curious Microbe. The Microbe Zoo is a virtual zoo filled with creatures from the microscopic worlds around, inside of, and on us. The zoo presents pictures of microbes; data about their size, scientific classification, and feeding habits; and descriptions of how the microbes fit into and interact with their environments and other microorganisms. Microbes in the News features news stories about microbial ecology and microbiology from the popular press, along with added commentary by scientists. The Meet the Scientists section allows users to learn more about the people who study microbiology and microbial ecology. The Microbial Ecology Resources section includes lists of WWW sites, CD-ROMs, software, videos, books, periodicals, and other resources relating to microbial ecology, microbiology, and biology. The Curious Microbe section presents information on microbes that inhabit extreme environmental niches. Users may order The Microbe Zoo on CD-ROM from this site. Abstracted 07/97. (Author/DJS) |
