What is the ENC number?
The ENC number is the unique six-digit number assigned to each resource. It is a convenient way to refer to the materials if you are contacting ENC (or working with colleagues). You'll find the ENC number at the top of an ENC record and displayed as a part of the url for each record. For example, the full record of the GLOBE Program has ENC#: ENC-009304 at the top.
ENC has also created a easy way to access records for which you already know the ENC number. The easy URL for the record whose ENC number is 012345 is www.enc.org/records/012345/. The URL will direct you to the brief ENC record. To access the full record, simply select that tab at the top of the record. Remember, you should always think of the ENC number as being six digits.

How do I know what specific subject words to use when I search through Curriculum Resources?
In both the simple and advanced searches, you have the opportunity to fill in a search box with one or more topics or subject words. While these searches use a controlled vocabulary, which means that any word used in that field must be on ENC's list of subject terms, most subject terms that you are familiar with are included in that list.
However, there are specific ways that ENC staff use terms in order to be consistent and to most accurately describe teaching materials. To know precisely what terms ENC uses, look at the Browse area. The Browse by subject mechanism takes you through the different levels of ENC subject terms to find resources that match the specific term you seek. For example, the first level of terms is general (Mathematics); the next level is slightly more specific (Algebra); the third level is quite specific (Coefficients).
